CSPAR and FTPP Host SCS Bridge Program Outreach Event
The Center for Space Plasma and Aeronomic Research (CSPAR), in collaboration with Future Technology & Enabling Plasma Processes (FTPP), hosted an outreach event on July 18, 2025, in the National Space Science and Technology Center (NSSTC). This event welcomed two student groups from the SCS Bridge Program, with attendees ranging from high school sophomores to incoming freshmen at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH).
Key Highlights
“Interview an REU Student” Activity
Students engaged in an interactive session where they interviewed REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) participants. This gave them the chance to ask questions and learn directly from undergraduates actively involved in summer research at CSPAR. The activity highlighted the academic and professional opportunities available through programs like REU.
Plasma Science Demonstration
The second half of each session featured a live demonstration using a plasma globe and light bulb to introduce students to basic plasma physics concepts. Led by Paria Abouhamzeh, this hands-on activity sparked curiosity and helped students visualize the science behind plasma—the fourth state of matter.
Purpose and Audience
The outreach event was designed to expose students to real research environments, inspire interest in space science, and foster early engagement with STEM fields. By interacting with REU students and participating in engaging demonstrations, attendees were able to envision themselves in future academic and scientific roles. The event also supported CSPAR and FTPP’s ongoing mission to promote science education and community engagement.
