Alexis Carter reflects on her summer experience with FTPP
This summer, Alexis Carter joined the Future Technologies and Enabling Plasma Processes (FTPP) program as a Marketing Outreach and Administration Intern.
As a Public Relations student with an interest in marketing, Alexis wanted to learn more about what a career in marketing looked like day to day.

During her time with FTPP, she worked on a variety of projects, including social media content, student spotlight features, website updates, and article development.
One of the highlights of Alexis’s summer was helping with the International Space Weather Camp (ISWC). She got to work closely with the students by creating fun, interactive videos and conducting interviews to share what they were learning and experiencing throughout the program.
This experience helped Alexis see how important communication and outreach are when connecting students with STEM opportunities. During her internship, Alexis completed four CITI certifications while learning new skills, including Qualtrics, WordPress website development, and improving her writing and design skills. Alexis said the internship helped her grow both personally and professionally. She improved her professionalism, organization, event planning, content creation, and communication skills while becoming more confident in her ability to contribute to a STEM-focused research program.
This summer, Alexis worked with FTPP and saw the impact of connecting students with STEM research opportunities, encouraging her to stay connected with the field. This experience also influenced her interest in pursuing a specialized STEM-based master’s program in marketing research at the University of Georgia after she graduates in Fall 2026 with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences from Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama.
“I really enjoyed my time at FTPP/CSPAR,” Alexis says, “The CSPAR team felt like a family. They welcomed me with open arms, always encouraged me, and were there whenever I needed guidance. Their support made this internship an experience I will never forget.”
Alexis is thankful for the support and guidance she received this summer, especially from her mentor Laura Provenzani. Laura helped Alexis build her skills, encouraged her throughout the internship, and played an important role in her professional growth.
